Utilizing ChatGPT as a writing assistant for blog posts
Just a slight departure from our regular Enterprise Data Science posts. Had to share my experience with ChatGPT and how I utilized it as a writing assistant for blog posts. ChatGPT is truly a gift!
Hi everyone!
I recently had the opportunity to use ChatGPT to write blog posts for my hobby websites, most recently for depressionboss.com. The post, titled "How Depression Evolves: The Negative Cycle of Depression," explored the various stages of depression and how they can contribute to a downward spiral.
One of the things that impressed me about ChatGPT was its ability to produce content that was similar in structure to what I had written on this topic in the past. It was able to generate a clear and concise outline, complete with subheadings and key points, that followed the same general structure as my previous posts. It went head to head with my own expertise in this domain- amazing!
However, there was one thing that ChatGPT was unable to do: create a flow diagram. It attempted to create one using ASCII art, but the result was not quite up to par.
Here’s the first attempt:
Here is a visual representation of the negative cycle of depression in the form of a flowchart:
Stressful life event or chronic stressor
|
|
v
Negative thoughts and beliefs
|
|
v
Negative behaviors (isolation, unhealthy habits)
|
|
v
More symptoms of depression (changes in mood and behavior)
|
|
v
Pervasive negative thoughts, difficulty seeking help
|
|
v
Negative cycle continues without treatment
Here is a subsequent attempt:
Here is a possible flow diagram for the negative cycle of depression using ASCII art:
---
| |
| Depression |
| |
---
|
| Negative thoughts and behaviors
|
---
| |
| Increased |
| Depression |
| |
---
|
| More negative thoughts and behaviors
|
---
| |
| Even more |
| Depression |
| |
---
It forgot some of the intervening components of the cycle, such as triggers/stressors, avoidant behaviors, and how it all feeds back into the vicious cycle.
Despite this limitation, I was still able to use the content that ChatGPT generated as a starting point for my blog post, and I was able to create a more polished flow diagram using a different tool.
Overall, I was quite impressed with the capabilities of ChatGPT and I will definitely consider using it again for future blog posts. If you're a content creator, I highly recommend giving it a try!
